Indonesia Energy strategies in Indonesia Indonesia is a large oil and natural gas producer. 77% of energy needs are covered by fossil fuels combustion. In Indonesia electrification by means of SHS has a long tradition throughout the archipelago. Solar/PV technology is interesting because the country include many small islands for which grid connections are difficult to be constructed. Benefits of the SHS electrification: health advantages for women and children, more working hours, less fuel organisation, more comfort and more income. Currently the PV market volume of Indonesia, with 200 million inhabitants and an average electrification ratio of 55%, is estimated at only 500 kW/year. The country has significant hydroelectric and geothermal energy potential, but only 4% of the estimated geothermal capacity has been used.
