RES still constitute a small proportion of the power generation market in Thailand, but could become an important energy source in future, maybe much more of the potential currently envisaged.
Biogas plants at pig farms are expected to contribute substancially to future development of RES, contributing to solve a serious environmental problem. Thailand's energy strategy has a strong environmental focus and a view towards energy security through more effective use of domestic energy resources. Incentives and an obligation on power producers are expected to deliver an additional 214 MW of PV by 2011. Target for all renewable energy sources = 21,2% of total energy demand by 2011.
