EL SALVADOR Energy strategies in El Salvador To help speed development and use of environmentally friendly RE technologies, the State has established support for investment in renewable energies ( medium scale plants which are erected quickly and without major environmental impact): - Import of components for RE systems is exempt from duty - A tax relief scheme for medium-scale power plants has been introduced: a) installations with a capacity < 10 MW are exempt from taxation for 10 years b) installations with a capacity up to 20 MW are exempt from taxation for 5 years. Aim of the action: to promote electrification of rural areas. A fund to support electricity generation from RES, mainly solar energy, is also prposed. Renewable Energy Business in El Salvador
