Portugal

Portugal is among the leading countries in Europe in terms of the contribution of renewable energy to the national balance of energy, accounting for approx. 12% of the final energy consumption.

This contribution is divided in almost equal parts between hydropower and biomass energy. Other renewable energy sources like wind and geothermal energy make a small contribution.

PV cumulative installed capacity = 14,8 MWp at the end of 2007.

Cumulative installed capacity of solar thermal installations = 200.000 m² = 140 MWth at the end of 2007.

WE installed capacity in 2006 = 694 MWp.

Wind Energy cumulative installed capacity = 1.716 MWp at the end of 2006.

The share of RES in power generation is expected to increase to 39% by 2010.
