Switzerland

Switzerland has the largest per capita PV capacity in Europe with > 50 MWp total installed capacity.

Objectives of the Renewable Energy policy in Switzerland:

Stabilisation of total fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to 1990 levels

· Increased contribution from renewable energy sources of 0,5% of electricity production, and 3% of heat production. Biomass is expected to produce 50% of the power and 90% of the heat.

· To increase hydro power by 5%.

These activities took place on three levels: voluntary measures, promoting energy efficiency & the use of renewable energy sources; a favourable legal environment for sufficient, secure, cost effective & environmentally sound energy supplies, and efficient energy use; and dialogue on controversial topics among all concerned sectors.
