THERMIE Projects

The key aims of the support given to the PV industry by THERMIE were to raise confidence in the use of PV for power generation and to reduce costs, both of PV modules and of other components of PV systems. Cost reductions were delivered by boosting the use of PV in the EU, and by increasing exports, especially to developing countries.

Selected THERMIE photovoltaic projects:

1. Isolated PV plant in Llaveria

2. AUTOSOLE Project Contract No. SE/454/92 The AGAC project, together with the Italian company ANIT, has developed a PV parking system which charges electric cars. An association of 45 municipalities in the North of Italy is working to develop integrated projects of transport and renewable energies.
3. ZKM Karlsruhe - Tramway with direct coupled PV power station Contract No. SE/454/92 The tramway in Karlsruhe, where 100 kWp of PV generator injects DC directly into the tramway power network. An old factory has been transformed into an art centre. Semi- transparent modules are integrated as roof materials.
4. The Toledo 1 MWp power plant. Contract No. SE/109/91/ES This plant is the first MW scale grid-connected PV power plant in Europe.

5. Rural PV electrification in Catalonia. Contract No. SE/84/92/ES
