Photovoltaic powered
irrigation system.

Photovoltaic energy is ideal as a means of powering remotely-sited
pumping and irrigatiopn systems, but it is expensive. Working closely
with local farmers in Southern portugal, an EU research project
has shown that for high-value crops it can be highly cost-effective.
The project developed and demonstrated an easy to use system which
integrates a photovoltaic energy source with intelligent irrigation
controls.

Offering water savings as well as improved irrigation of valuable
crops, it has great potential throughout Europe.
